Prosphora Baking Workshop
A message from Patty Brusko:
Hello Ladies (and Gentlemen),
Based on conversation at the St. Emilia Women’s Guild meeting on Aug 29 regarding baking prosphora, Andy and I would like to hold a baking training session at our house some morning. We think it would be much easier to do it at our house rather than the church kitchen. We propose a session from 9 am to noon. That is how long it takes for a typical batch. We would provide bagels, coffee, fruit while the dough is rising.
A Saturday morning is probably best for everyone but if that doesn't work out, we can try to find a weekday that works.
Ideally, 4 bakers is best. By baking a batch, which makes 12 small loaves, we would each have to bake once every 8 weeks at the current rate that Father Andrew uses the loaves, which is 6 per week. It is possible he will use more in the future, but we can address that when it happens.
We are willing to show any number of you who want to bake, but we are hoping to have 4 consistent bakers for now.
Please let us know if you are interested. We are available any Saturday in September. If you are unavailable any of these Satudays in September, please propose some days, weekdays or Saturdays, that work for you and we'll try to find a day that works for everyone. It is not urgent that we get this accomplished in September, so we are open to pushing this off until October. We appreciate your willingness to help.

Nativity of the Theotokos
The Nativity of the Theotokos is September 8. We will celebrate this feast with vespers on Tuesday, September 7 at 6 PM, and a festal divine liturgy on Wednesday, September 8 at 9:30 AM.
Church School Starting!
Saturday, September 25 at 4:30 pm, we will kick-off our new church school. There will be classes for every age, and dinner provided at 5 pm. Please send us an email with any questions.
Exaltation of the Cross and Abp. Alexander visit
The Most Reverend ALEXANDER, Archbishop of Dallas and the South, will visit our parish in September! Please make every effort to come to this significant occasion—our first archpastoral visit since Fr Andrew’s ordination, and on a Great Feast of the Lord! We will feast together in honor of the occasion before Vespers on Monday, 9/13, starting dinner at 6p. Vespers will commence after dinner, around 7p.
On the Feast, Tuesday 9/14, we will greet His Eminence at 9am, and then celebrate the Festal Pontifical Divine Liturgy. It is a great blessing to see the Divine Liturgy celebrated in its full splendor (including the vesting of His Eminence in the middle of the Church). Please arrive by 8.30, particularly singers and servers! (Note: this Feast is also a strict fast day, so we will have light Lenten fare following the Liturgy.)
Women's Group: Aug 29
Our September meeting will be bumped forward to August 29 after Divine Liturgy. We have an important discussion about the bishop’s visit, including sign-ups to help.
Church School
Saturday, September 25 at 4:30 pm, we will kick-off our new church school. There will be classes for every age, and dinner provided at 5 pm. Please send us an email with any questions, or if you’re interested in teaching! We could really use your help.
Men's Group Car Clinic
St. Basil’s Men’s Group will conduct a free car clinic for parish and community this Saturday, Aug. 14! Men, please come to the parish to set up at 8 AM (breakfast provided!), and we'll be ready for cars from 9 AM to 10:30 AM.
Bring your car and invite your neighbors. Gentlemen: we need all hands. Please let Aaron B. know if you can help, especially if you are good with cars and/or have tools like a code reader, compressor, etc.
Inspection teams will do a basic inspection of vehicles (e.g. fluids, belts, brakes, lights, etc.). If vehicle owners have particular concerns, they can ask the inspection team for recommendations. This will help the owner when they take the vehicle to a mechanic’s shop– they’ll have a baseline of knowledge to be able to talk about their vehicle. In general, inspection teams won’t conduct the maintenance themselves- they will refer to a mechanic’s shop.
St Emilia's Guild: Flowers for Transfiguration
