Thanks to God, and the generosity of many, St. Basil Orthodox Church has closed on property that will (God willing) serve as our permanent home in southeastern North Carolina. It is our distinct honor to be able to take a small portion of land, to consecrate it for a sacred purpose, offer it back to God and to invite those around us to come, “taste and see that the Lord is good.” Please pray for us in the days ahead – there is much work to be done by building, finance and grounds committees, and many pieces still need to fall in line before we can begin to use the property for regular worship services.

If you have pledged toward this initial phase, please make your offering within the next two weeks. If you have not been able to give toward this project, but would like to, please let me know.

On February 24, 2012, Stephanos and Alexandria Ritsi will be giving a presentation about their future mission work in the country of Albania. The Orthodox Church of Albania, under the direction of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios, is experiencing a continued revival since the many years of persecution by the Ottoman Empire and the harsh communist government of Enver Hoxha (1945-1991). Stephanos and Alexandria will share stories about the rebirth of the Orthodox Faith in the country of Albania and the future works that they will be doing there. These works will include: helping to reestablish the religious life of the Orthodox Church; preparation and education of students at the University of Tirana; education at the Protagonist Elementary School and helping to bring more Albanian people back into the Orthodox Church.

About Children at Heart and the Birthmother Fund

Last Spring, Children at Heart started a domestic adoption program with the hope of leting women know that there is help out there for them when they find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy. No matter what the circumstances, many of them need material items as well as the support we are able to provide. Children at Heart has set up a fund for birthmothers who are in the adoption process to help them with things like food, bus passes, over the counter medication, items for children they are presently parenting………and the list goes on and on.

CAH has also started a birthmother support group that meets once a month in Wilmington. Women come who have placed a child for adoption over 40 years ago and they mentor the younger girls who have just placed a child or are considering placing achild. A confidential online support group has also been started for those women who are not in our area but would like to be in contact with other birthmothers and to be in contact with each other outside of the monthly meeting.

On Friday, June 3, St. Basil the Great Mission in Wilmington, NC welcomed His Grace, Bishop Mark to the Port City of North Carolina for an Archpastoral visit. This was the first visit of a hierarch to this mission community which was founded several years ago, and welcomed its first resident priest, Father Peter Robichau, in June of 2010. The community gathered for Great Vespers and a banquet on Saturday evening, June 4; an enjoyable time of fellowship was had by all. His Grace, Bishop Mark, presided at the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, June 5. With the blessing of His Grace, Protodeacon Lawrence Daniels of Greensburg, PA, Deacon John Crook (attached to St. Basil’s) and Deacon David Keim, of All Saints (Antiochian) in Raleigh, NC assisted in the service of the Divine Liturgy.
